Job Responsibilities

Job Description: This role requires someone who is technically versed in many areas of electronics (hardware, firmware, and software) but also has good people management skills as well as strategic thinking. They will focus on the development, strategy, and decision making of electronic products as well as managing the R&D team of engineers. This person needs to be able to see a project from a commercial perspective but also be able to dive into detailed tasks and support the team in doing the actual work. They will lead the company in making decisions about the technical specifications of products and also advise whether it would be best to do development in-house or outsource to vendors. They will need to be able to jump in on customer calls to support the global account managers, and also communicate with vendors to work through challenges. They will also be responsible for researching new technologies, setting electronic standards, organizing all electronic files, and making sure team members and vendors test and document properly. Responsibilities Summary: 1. Manage team of engineers- resource allocation, hiring, conflict resolution, and mentorship. 2. Help project teams create a development plan for technology related products 3. Train non-technical team members on key technology concepts and standards 4. Attend project kickoffs, offer technical guidance to global team members, and provide direction regarding technology development recommendations. 5. Attend client meetings when needed, phone calls and occasional international travel required 6. Manage communication between project teams and electronic engineers 7. Confirm that design work done by vendors meets functional spec requirements as well as Outform standards 8. Assist project teams in determining whether supplier is adequately competent to handle needs of the project. 9. Review technical documents- functional specifications, schematics, wiring diagrams, testing methods, etc. 10. Instruct the team in proper QA testing methodology to ensure product design is safe, will function well for long period of time, and can withstand retail environment 11. Work with team to troubleshoot quality issues, pre-scan failures, etc. to get to the root cause and develop solution. 12. Ensure that all IP related to electronics (source code, schematics, PCBA Layouts & BOMs, etc.) is saved and organized properly on the Outform file server. 13. Confirm that functional specifications adequately define product requirements. 14. Create database of specifications and standards for all types of products- LCD screens, media players, OSM modules, cables, LED panels, controllers, PSUs, etc. 15. Sign off on electronic samples that they are made to spec and functioning properly. 16. Participate and provide suggestions in upper management strategic discussions related to technology. 17. Harmonize technologies used to better reuse IP and reduce development time and cost when implementing new solutions. This would include ensuring the use of sound modern development processes and tools. 18. Provide input to sales/marketing team and upper management on strategic direction for Outform products. 19. Investigate new technologies and improvements to current technologies that would improve the features/cost of the electronics used retails displays.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements (Must-Have): 1. At least 10 years of experience in electronics development or related field 2. Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronic engineering, or related field 3. Experience managing or supervising team of engineers 4. Basic understanding of hardware design, electronic circuitry, and PCBA components 5. Basic understanding of software development on both the OS and embedded levels 6. If a native Chinese, must have fluent spoken and written English. 7. If a foreigner, currently living in China and able to relocate to Jiaxing. Candidate Requirements: 1. Skilled at writing technical documents 2. Able to express technical issues in a simple to understand way 3. Experience working with Chinese Manufacturers, and ideally brands which are marketed in the USA and Europe 4. Current or prior experience with embedded systems development 5. Able to understand and review schematics 6. Understand logic of software coding 7. Humble attitude with eagerness to learn and research new areas of technology 8. Able to empathize with employees and suppliers but still take a strong stance on requirements and expectations. 9. Confident and well-spoken to be able to join high level customer meetings 10. Good commercial sense to see things from the customer's perspective as well as Outform upper management's perspective 11. Understand cultural differences between customers in Western countries and suppliers in China 12. If Chinese, experience living and working abroad in Europe or USA. 13. Experience using web-based project and software development tools (Atlassian suit, Git repos, Basecamp, Monday com, etc.) Additional Skills (Nice to Have): 1. Experience in the retail fixture or in-store marketing industries 2. Familiar with industrial design and engineering process 3. Able to design PCBA layouts and BOM of components 4. Deep understanding of both Linux and Android OS 5. Ability to code software for Android or Linux applications 6. Familiarity with “stage-and-gate” processes 7. If foreigner, good enough Chinese to be able to have technical discussion with staff and suppliers.
